dermal fillers

As you age, your skin changes. It may begin to lose volume in certain places, and wrinkles start to form. When this happens, you may find yourself wishing you could turn back the clock for more youthful, rejuvenated skin with volume in all the right places.

That’s where dermal fillers come in. Done correctly by professionals, dermal fillers can reduce fine lines, add volume to hollow areas and redefine certain features.

What can dermal fillers be used for?

Smoothing lines and wrinkles

This is what dermal fillers are best known for. Their ability to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles has made them one of the most popular and sought-after treatments for antiaging.

These dermal fillers are typically based on hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that gives the skin its elasticity. Highly effective with results visible for up to 18 months, patients tend to opt to fill facial folds around the eyes, nose, and forehead areas.

Reduce Appearance of Scars

Scars caused by acne, and other skin trauma can create indents and texture on the skin. Dermal fillers can be used to minimise the appearance of scars, and even out the overall skin texture around the area for improved texture.

Sculpting the Lips

Whether your lips have become thinner with age, or you are simply looking for a bigger pout, or a more defined shape, dermal fillers can be used to add volume to the lips.

Besides volume, certain techniques can be used with dermal fillers to change the overall shape and structure of your lips, for example, the Russian lip technique which creates a doll-like cupid’s bow on the lips.

Cheek Volume

Again, with age, you might find your cheeks are starting to lack volume. Instead of silicone implants to restore lost fullness, dermal fillers can be injected into the cheeks to add volume and structure to the face for a more youthful look.

Fill Marionette Lines

Marionette lines typically appear below each corner of the mouth as the skin naturally loses volume. Dermal fillers can be used to fill in that lost volume for a more balanced, and youthful look.

Nose reshaping

As dermal fillers are so versatile, they can also be used to reshape certain areas of the face, including the nose. Where the surgical Rhinoplasty procedure is costly and invasive, dermal fillers can make small adjustments to the overall nose shape, and correct areas without the need for surgery.

Reduce smile lines

Also known as Nasolabial Folds, smile lines often develop around the sides of the nose, down to the corner of the mouth. Dermal filler can be used around the area to smooth out the lines for a more youthful look.

What are the side effects of dermal filler?

Dermal fillers are non-invasive, but following treatment, you may experience some minor side effects, including:

• Swelling

• Redness

• Bruising

• Tenderness around the injection site

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are completely safe. However, you should always ensure you see a trained professional for treatment. As with any medical procedure, dermal fillers can cause some unexpected complications if not administered correctly.

To avoid the risk of complications, following your treatment we advise you to take it easy for around 48 hours to ensure the dermal fillers settle as they should. Here are some tips to follow, after your treatment.

Avoid exercise – Avoid going to the gym or doing any strenuous exercise for around 48 hours.

Avoid extreme temperatures – You should avoid extreme temperatures, including direct sunlight and saunas as this can impact the healing process and may lead to infection.

Avoid skincare and make-up – Try to avoid using any form of makeup, skincare, or perfume around the area for at least 24 hours. You should also avoid touching or washing the face during this period.

Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water following your procedure and avoid alcohol for around 24 hours.

Any side effects should ease themselves after a few days, but if you have any concerns, you should contact your aesthetician.

Dermal fillers typically last between 6 months – 1 year depending on the area treated. After this, you may need to revisit your clinic and have them redone.
