One of the main questions clinicians are asked nowadays is about microneedling, what are the benefits? In truth, there is a reason why micro needling treatment is so popular, and that is because it can be used to effectively treat a whole host of skin concerns.
In this blog, we will talk you through microneedling, what it can be used for and what to expect during your treatment.
Microneedling- what are the benefits?
Microneedling or collagen induction therapy as it is also known involves pricking the skin with tiny needles. Whilst it may sound scary, it is relatively painless and encourages the body to begin its natural repairing process. In turn, this ramps up the natural production of collagen within the skin and helps to rejuvenate it and effectively treat a number of conditions.
What can microneedling be used for?
So, micro needling treatment – what are the benefits, and what conditions can it treat? Well, Micro needling is a highly effective, and highly versatile treatment. It can be used a treat a number of conditions, including:
• Sun damage
• Acne
• Scars
• Hair loss (also called alopecia)
• Dark spots or patches on your skin (hyperpigmentation)
• Large pores
• Stretch marks
• Reduced skin elasticity
• Fine lines and wrinkles
How does Microneedling work?
When you book a treatment with Ness Aesthetics, we will invite you for a pre-treatment consultation. This is so we can assess your overall concerns and recommend a suitable treatment path that will work for you.
Microneedling usually takes around 20 minutes to complete, depending on how big the treatment area is. You may require more than one treatment to see full results, but this will be discussed with you during your consultation.
At the start of your treatment, we will give you a topical numbing agent, this will help alleviate any discomfort you may experience from the needles. We will then move a specially designed tool around the area that has the needles. Once the needle penetrates the skin, your body will begin its natural healing process and produce collagen and elastin to help heal the affected area.
Collagen and elastin are essential proteins found within the body and are responsible for maintaining your skin’s overall health, moisture, and elasticity.
Following the procedure, we may apply a combination of specific topical skincare to the area, which will penetrate the deeper layers of skin, so you receive the maximum benefit from your treatment.
The most common place people get microneedling is the face, but it is also effective in treating other areas of the body too, like the stomach and thighs where you may develop stretch marks.
Side Effects
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment, and you may experience some minor side effects following your treatment. These should only last for a couple of days and will clear up on their own.
Side effects may include:
• Slight pain
• Redness around the treatment area
• Skin peeling
• Bruising
If you have or have had any keloid scars, talk to your aesthetician as Microneedling may not be advisable and could make the condition worse. Whilst the complication rate for microneedling is very low, there is a very slight risk of infection, though it is unlikely it is advisable to seek a fully trained and licensed aesthetician to minimise any risks.
When you book with us, during your consultation we will fully explain the procedure to you, and how it works so you understand, and can ask any questions you may have before undergoing any form of treatment.
If you have any questions about micro needling, or to book a consultation with us contact Ness Aesthetics.
